Smart Pods - Healthcare on the move.
Treating patients in the community: the Smart Pods project.
Smart Pods is a two-year research project, funded by the Engineering and Physical Science Research Council, which explores and develops the enabling and supporting technologies and systems that are required to radically change the way in which urgent healthcare is delivered, moving from hospital-based care to a mobile community-based service.
Showcase Content:
Exhibiting the outputs from the Smart Pods project, including a mock-up of the interior of an ambulance and “blue sky” vehicle designs for urgent care vehicles of the future. Supported by videos, presentations and a book summarising the project to date. Actively seeking comment and feedback from participants during the event.
Perspectives on the problem of urgent care delivery, ensuring that the project’s outputs are acceptable to all stakeholders.
There is a coherent and sustained shift in healthcare policy, service delivery and professional roles which is driving the mobilisation and community delivery of urgent care. However despite the considerable progress and investment of resources in new healthcare professionals that has occured to date, there has been very little consideration of the enabling and supporting technologies required to facilitate this change. This exhibition describes the research outputs of the Smart Pods project, funded by the EPSRC to address this gap and maximise the clinical and cost effectiveness of community based urgent healthcare delivery.
