VERT provides a virtual reality model of a radiotherapy (RT) treatment room in which staff and students can gain knowledge and experience of radiotherapy equipment and treatment processes. The virtual model is life size and immersive giving trainees and staff a real sense of “being there in the room”. Using a real pendant the trainee can manipulate the virtual linac and couch and thus practice both basic and complex patient set-ups. VERT allows any RT treatment plan to be simulated and through a rich set of innovative visualization and training aids a plan can be interactively investigated from different perspectives. VERT has a range of uses including initial RT training and education, continuing education, providing patient information, assisting introduction of new RT techniques, assessment of trainee’s RT plans, etc.
